GENERAL DESCRIPTION

HL5808 is a multiple point object proximity sensor IC, which can be used in a LCD display screen and makes the electrodes in the LCD functions as display electrodes as well as touch sensor electrodes. By using HL5808, a conventional LCD can be used as a display screen and touch screen without any change in the process and structure of the LCD. By using this technology, in the implementation of a LCD touch screen it is not necessary to coat a layer of ITO on top of glass substrate of the LCD.

The HL5808 is designed based on a patent issued and more patents pending technologies.

The sensors of the object position detector are composed of multiple arrays of sensor plates. Electrodes are used to form a display icon (or a pixel) or sensor electrodes. There are 16 output pins in HL5808 and can be used to drive 8 display icons or act as 8 capacitive touch keys.

HL5808 can communicate with external microprocessor through SCL and SDA pins. When a key is touched the READYN pin is activated to LOW state, and which means DATA is ready to be read. SDA and SCL are serial data bus.

In order to expand the number of the keys, multiple numbers of HL5808 can be used in one system. The maximum number of HL5808 can be used in one system is eight. There are address pins ADD2, ADD1 and ADD0 which can be used to identify which HL5808 is chosen by microprocessor.
